The record dates Auvers Town Hall in 14 July 1890 to 1890, and the title itself carries a full calendar date — the one title in this catalogue of 610 that does. Everywhere else the record gives a year and nothing finer, which is why this page never states a month, a season or an order of making for any other entry.
What the record gives
The canvas measures 93 by 72 centimetres, a large upright, and the location is given as a private collection — sixteen of the eighty-four works dated 1890 are recorded that way. The measured palette reads as yellow and green. A town hall is named in one title in the catalogue, this one.
Auvers, the last cluster
Auvers is named in twenty-one titles here and every one of them is dated 1890. The fifth and final period of this chronology is therefore as sharply bounded in the titles as the Paris years were, and it is smaller than either of the years before it: eighty-four works, against 116 for 1889 and 135 for 1888. What happened on the date in the title, and why it was recorded, are not things the card establishes.
