The record dates Wheatfield with cypress tree to 1889. Both halves of the title belong to that year's vocabulary: ten works dated 1889 carry "wheat", and of the ten works in this catalogue that name cypresses, six carry the same date. The cypress arrives late in the arc — one 1888 canvas mentions it, then six in 1889 and three in 1890 — and it never appears in the Dutch or Paris years at all.

The canvas measures 73 x 92 cm and is held by the National Gallery in London. The measured palette resolves to green as the single dominant family.
