The record dates Wheatfield with cypress tree to 1889. Both halves of the title belong to that year's vocabulary: ten works dated 1889 carry "wheat", and of the ten works in this catalogue that name cypresses, six carry the same date. The cypress arrives late in the arc — one 1888 canvas mentions it, then six in 1889 and three in 1890 — and it never appears in the Dutch or Paris years at all.
What the record gives
The canvas measures 73 x 92 cm and is held by the National Gallery in London. The measured palette resolves to green as the single dominant family.
Not the only version
The record holds several closely related canvases with the same date: Wheat Field with Cypresses, Wheat Field with Cypresses at the Haude Galline near Eygalieres, held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Green Wheat Field with Cypress. They differ in size and in the collection that holds them, and this catalogue keeps them as separate entries rather than merging them. Which of them came first is not recorded here, and no order is invented for them.
