Also dated 1884, this canvas carries the barest possible title — Weaver — and the catalogue files it under landscape and rural as well as still life, which is a different combination from the companion work of the same year and subject held in Munich. The record does not explain the difference, and it is left here as recorded rather than reconciled.
Green in a brown year
The measured palette is green, which is unusual for 1884 in this catalogue: the Brabant works of that year run heavily to brown and ochre. A green reading may follow from the landscape classification the record gives it, but the record does not say what is green, and no description of the picture is attempted from a catalogue line.
What the record holds
1884, 70 by 85 cm, held at the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo. Wider than it is tall, unlike the Munich weaver, which stands upright.
