The record dates The Factory at Asnieres to 1887 and places it in the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. That collection holds six works in this catalogue, dated 1887, 1888, 1889 and 1890 — one of the very few holdings here that covers four consecutive years, and therefore one of the few that can be read as a sequence in itself.

Asnieres is named in sixteen titles in this catalogue and all of them are dated 1887, which makes it the largest single-year place cluster in the whole decade apart from Arles and Auvers. The catalogue holds ninety-five works from 1887, so the Asnieres group is a substantial fraction of the year's output as recorded here. What the record cannot support is any account of how often the painter went, or with whom, and none is attempted.
