Vineyards, at two ends of the chronology
The record dates Vineyards with a View of Auvers to 1890. Three titles in this catalogue name a vineyard, two of them dated 1888 — the record spells one of those as Vinyard — and this one dated 1890. Two periods, one noun, two spellings, and three separate records: a catalogue that normalised the spelling would read better and match its sources worse.
What the record gives
The canvas measures 79.5 by 64.2 centimetres, an upright, and it is held by the Saint Louis Art Museum, one of four entries here in that collection, dated 1884, 1887 and 1890. The measured palette reads as green and yellow.
Auvers, twenty-one titles
Twenty-one titles in this catalogue name Auvers, and all twenty-one are dated 1890 — the same exact coincidence of place and year that Asnières has with 1887 and Saintes-Maries with 1888. The five-place chronology this site uses is built on dates rather than on words in titles, but where the two agree completely, as they do here, it is worth recording that they agree. Eighty-four works carry the 1890 date in all.
