Three Pairs of Shoes is an oil on canvas by Vincent van Gogh, dated 1886-1887 and held at the Harvard Art Museums/Fogg Museum under object number 1951.66. The museum lists its dimensions as 49.8 x 72.5 cm (19 5/8 x 28 9/16 in.), with a framed size of 72.2 x 95.5 x 6.5 cm. The work is signed with an incised "Vincent" at the lower center and also bears an incised "VINCENT" at the upper right on the canvas. [1]
Harvard describes six worn shoes, one turned over to show its nailed sole while the others face right. The museum also records a flower painting beneath this composition. Its gallery text compares the individual character of the shoes with portraiture, interpreting them in relation to Parisian workers. [1]
