The record dates Cypresses with Two Women to 1889. This site assigns that whole year to Saint-Rémy, and it states plainly why: the record holds a year and not a month, so each year goes whole to the town where more of it was painted. The stated consequence is that canvases made at Arles early in 1889 are grouped here under Saint-Rémy. The rule is published so that a reader knows the year is doing the work, and not a claim about a town.
