Arles, and a title spelled two ways

The record dates Alychamps, Autumn to 1888, the single year this catalogue assigns to Arles and the largest of the ten: 135 works carry it. Three titles here name the Alyscamps, the Roman burial avenue at Arles, and the record spells it two different ways — Alyscamps once and Alychamps twice. All three are dated 1888. A catalogue that silently normalised the spelling would be tidier and would misreport what the sources say.

The canvas measures 72 by 91 centimetres and is held by the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, which holds fourteen of the works dated 1888. The measured palette reads as green and yellow.
